What to Expect
Initial Contact
At times it is difficult to pick up the phone and ask for help. Sometimes the first step is the hardest, but once made, everything else typically falls into place. I will do all I can to ease this process for you. During the initial phone call, I will gather information from you, ask you what type of help you are seeking, and we will make sure that we are a good fit to work together. We will then decide on a day and time to have our first initial session.
If you reach my voicemail, please leave a message. I will call you back within 24-48 hours to schedule a consultation or appointment.
Intake Paperwork
During the initial call, I will request your email address and send you a link to my online portal so that you can conveniently complete the intake paperwork prior to our first session.
Please review this information carefully, as it has important information that pertains to your treatment in therapy. It will also give me an opportunity to review some of the information you'd like me to know about you before we meet.
Getting Started
During the first 1-2 sessions we will explore what brings you to therapy. We will talk about the support you think you need and what I will be able to provide. We will go over the intake paperwork and answer any questions you may have. Additionally, we will collaboratively establish goals for your treatment. It is during this time that we will be getting to know one another, determining if we are a good fit and establishing our plan for moving forward.
In the beginning, I typically recommend weekly to bi-weekly sessions, lasting 50-55 minutes each. We will focus on our treatment plans, but there will always be space for anything that may have come up between sessions.
Change takes time. This is why there is no way to predict how long you will be in therapy. We could meet short term, which could be anywhere from 4-8 session to a bit longer which could be as long as 8-20 sessions. As we work through our plan, we will keep communication open and periodically check back to ensure we are moving toward your goals. It is not my intention to prolong therapy, especially as goals are met. Remember, therapy does not have to last forever. It is entirely normal that people meet their initial goals and terminate therapy, but as time goes on other issues surface and they decide to re-engage.
